Proposed Project: Virtual Fuel Cell
Fuel cell technology is seen as a potential alternative for today's fossil
energy resources. It promises to cover a broad field of application, e.g. in
power generation, automotive technology, electronics and aerospace. Currently
there exists no integrated approach to support a continuous information feeding
throughout the virtual product development. This is mainly caused by the lack
of standards for software interfaces or appropriate information models. The
Department of Computer Integrated Design at the Technische Universität Darmstadt
has a research focus on functional
digital mock-up technology aiming at integrating tools in the development of
virtual fuel cells. Tasks available for REU students include increasing the
interoperability of computational models with the geometrical representation
of a fuel cell (MATLAB/NX). Skills in NX, MATLAB simulink and basic knowledge
of fuel cell technology as well as numerical methods are necessary.
